W.H. Clark

~

The Yunnan Mission was started by Dr. W.H. Clark (Presbyterian USA) who had worked with students and intellectuals in Changsha and was asked by the Church of Christ in China (CCC) in late 1938 to work with the refugee students flocking to Kunming after the Japanese invasion, with the establishment of the National South West United University. The CCC also asked Clark to explore options for supplementing the earlier work (since 1920) of the Chinese Home Mission Society in southern Yunnan, where in 1940 only a Mrs. Wu remained of six Chinese missionaries sent there.
